SHIAS ARE THE
AHL AL-SUNNAH
Muhammad Al Tijani Al Samawi
Translated by Yasin T. Al Jibouri
Editied by Nasir Shamsi
On the death of the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh), the muslim community divided, on the question of succession, into two camps : Sunni and Shia.
Shi'as are the Ahl al-Sunnah is an interesting study of how the Sunni majority not only arrogated to itself the title of the "Ahl al Sunnah" or "Traditionalist" but also made the shia incorrectly appear as "Heterodox". The conflict between the two is due not to the fact that one is nd the other is not the follower of the Prophet's traditions(Sunnah); both seek to follow the Prophet.
In fact, their conflict relates not as much to the tradition as to its source. The Sunni rely on the Tradition reported by the Companions; the shi'as view the Ahlul Bayt(as) and the Twelve Imamas(as) as an authentic source of the tradition.
Dr. Tijani who grew up as Sunni, gives a lucid and forceful account of the events that created the split between the people who adhered to the family of the Prophet and those who moved away from spiritual axis. A prolific Arabic writer, Dr. Tijani has skillfully unveiled a clear historical perspective of the Shi'I position that will be quite revealing as well as refreshing for the reader.
